Pic & Quote Of The Month

(Avvaiyar, Thiruvalluvar & Subramanya Bharathi At The World Classical Tamil Conference)

The Tamil language is older than Sanskrit and is "the mother of all languages in the world". More than 20 Tamil words had been found in Vedas by linguist Robert Caldwell, who coined the term Dravidian languages and first declared Tamil as a classical language. From this we learn that Tamil had an existence prior to Sanskrit. Tamil is not only an international language, it is like a mother of all languages in the world. Tamil scholar Devaneya Pavanar had established that Tamil is the primary classical language of the world. Root Tamil words exist in many languages of the world in various modifications but retaining the semantic meaning. In the world languages, it is difficult to find a basic word that does not have some link with the Tamil word. Hence, Tamil has the status of the mother tongue in the world.

  1. Dr. kalaignar is a scholar par excellence. The Tamil nation should be proud of him. By just one statement the way he can lift any language and make it mother of all is an effort without any parallel in the history. He should be given the title Mahatma Kalaignar, the Father of the Tamil Nation. The SUN for the tamil world. And therefore by implication the whole of the world. The fountain of all creativity. Without him around, the Indian political scene would never be the same again. At 86 he is in excellent health. A befitting gift to him at this age would be a marriage proposal from the one and only Purutchi Thalavi. This would also pave way for not only union of two divine souls and bodies but also union of two cross-currents in the politics of tamil-nadu, paving way for realising the true potential of TN which is so dear to the heart of the Father of the Tamil Nation.
Long live Kalaignar! And long live his sons. And also the SUN TV.

Kalaignar is a political person. So, we need not get unusually surprised by his statements. But, you are mischieviously silent on the glorious sight of cutouts swarming the streets of Coimbatore. I was told that you came all the way from Bombay to have darshan of that only .

But, some important findings of inter connection between Indus Valley civilisation and Dravidian Civilisation are being carried out by Asko papola(from Helsinki University), Iravadam Mahadevan, George Hart, etc. These are sounding very interesting. Recent excavatory findings of Archeological site of Pattanam in Kerala is also interesting in knowing the antiquity of life in South India.

Most Important: Two important research articles were presented in the conference on the "Poetics of Kanimozhi" and "Feministic thoght in the poetry of Kanimozhi". Now, Madam Kanimozhi, respected Rajya sabha MP, has eclipsed the space of Andal, Meera, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath, Wyslaw Symborska, etc in the hoary list of Women Poets in this small universe. Long live family and long live Kanimozhi!.

  3. My dear Pankaj, you have lauded 'Sun TV' instead of 'Kalaignar TV'. So please change the thing otherwise you would incur the wrath of many a political 'family'.

  4. Dear red earth and pouring rain, do you know this? One more Karunanithi scion has also eclipsed the legendary women Tamil poets and writers, who is none other than 'Kavithayini' Kayalvizhi.

  5. Da history of 20th century TN is riddled wid an inferiority complex.
Having struggled wid da brahminical hegemony, dey demselves started aping da very ethos which dey loathed.
Da unfortunate part is dat dey r never sure of der predicament.
Da hang-over still continues into da 21st c.
Every tom, dick & harry claims him/her-self to b a scholar & adds a 'Dr.' to his/her name.
It only signifies der yearning for a gud psychiatirc treatment.
I won't b surprised if another TN Dr. Scholar comes up wid a wild discovery dat Adam & Eve actually spoke in Tamil!
